Match mind and muscle as you plot your design and combine it together with finger strengthening Elastic Art If your child has difficult with handwriting or you want to promote the skills your child needs to be efficient at handwriting this product is your answer. Mind stretch promotes the finger strength and muscle tone necessary for a mature pencil grip which allows the child to manipulate the writing tool with precision and speed. It also develops spatial perception and memory skills which are key to correct and neat layout of writing. They oversee the progression of letter formation. This is where the child starts and stops the writing tool and the direction they utilise. The correct progression allows writing to flow and promotes speed. The design cards enclosed in this product address these foundation skills. Develops:
Fine motor skills
Mind Stretch builds finger strength and improves accurate eye-hand co-ordination as the child presses the wooden pegs into the mat. Visual tracking is used to scan the design card and elastic board to plot the pegs accurately. These skills are pertinent to legible handwriting. Directionality
Analysing how to plot the pegs on the grid cards, and place the elastics to create the image, requires the child to assess direction. Spatial relations
This is the understanding of how the position of one peg is related to another peg. Spatial perception plays a central role in many academic subjects, such as, language, history, science, and mathematics. This skill helps a child find their seat in a classroom (for example – the second desk three rows from the door). It helps a child understand the concept of time. For example, “I eat breakfast, then I do maths in the class before I have lunch.”
Concentration
Concentration is vital to learning as it aids memory. Mind stretch forces the child to pay careful attention to where the pegs are placed. The cards from 1-24 are designed to increase the demands placed on the child’s quality and quantity of conncentration.
Planning, reasoning ability and problem solving
The child plans how to create the picture by plotting and joining up the pegs with elastics. To copy the design cards the child has to determine the best elastic length to stretch the required short or long distance between pegs.
Number concepts
Mind stretch incorporates counting and understanding of longer and shorter quantity as the child plots the position of the pegs. Numerical accuracy is required. Creativity
The children develop their senses by exploring shape and form, while creating their own pictures. Creativity helps develop thinking processes, self –expression and imagination.
Early Literacy skills
Plotting pegs from left to right and top to bottom, develops the correct progression skill required for reading and writing.
